Thomas Beacham

Thomas Beacham, President of Marine Chemist & Environmental Consultants, has more than thirty years experience in safety, health and environmental issues in the maritime industry. After receiving his BS degree in chemistry from the University of Georgia in 1973, he received his MS degree in chemistry in 1975 from Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, VA. Mr. Beacham holds three professional certifications: NFPA Marine Chemist, an ABIH certificated Industrial Hygienist and a BSCP certificated Safety Professional.

Mr. Beacham was employed by Union Camp Corporation as Chief Analytical Chemist from 1974 to 1979 before working for NORSHIPCO, a shiprepair facility located in Norfolk, VA. He held various management positions with NORSHIPCO including Resident Marine Chemist, Industrial Hygienist,
Environmental Director and ultimately Director of Environment, Safety and Health responsible for corporate OSHA and EPA compliance.

His experiences at NORSHIPCO has prepared him well for his current position as President of MC & EC as well as Director of the Center of Emergency Medical and Safety Training (Center for EMS).

His main interest is in providing quality and informative training for the maritime and construction industry. He is an OSHA authorized trainer and has provided numerous classes in OSHA and EPA compliance over his career.

Currently, Mr. Beacham is a member of the Shipbuilder’s Council of America (SCA) and has represented the SCA interest on the NFPA 306 Control of Gas Hazards on Marine Vessels for more than twenty years. He is also a participant and active member of the Virginia Shiprepair Association (VSRA) located in the Port of Hampton Roads. He is also an active member of various environmental and safety groups located inside and outside of the Port of Hampton Roads.
